Change vehicle

Brake discs or rotors are parts of your Ford’s brakes that spin with the wheel and axle. For the braking mechanism to occur, a caliper presses brake pads against the surface of the rotor. This contact generates the friction necessary to stop or slow your vehicle. Although brake rotors are built for longevity, over time, they wear out due to constant stress, corrosion, and overheating.

How to Tell if Brake Discs Need Replacing

Look out for the following signs to know that it’s time to check your brake discs for possible replacement:

  • When braking, you feel excessive vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal.
  • Squealing or grinding noises can be heard from the wheels.
  • Upon inspection, the disc’s surface is uneven.
  • The disc has visible scoring or severe discoloration.
  • Cracks appear on the disc’s surface.
  • Excessive rust is found on the disc surface or edges.
  • Should You Change All Four Brake Discs?

The conservative route would be to change all four discs at once. However, this might be too expensive. For some owners, they replace the discs in pairs, or replace either front rotors or rear rotors at the same time. This helps preserve braking balance, as replacing only one disc at a time can cause uneven braking and result in unsafe driving conditions.
